About Us
Mixed methods research, a methodology integrating both quantitative and qualitative approaches, is promising, as it allows researchers to investigate contemporary complex phenomena at both macro- and micro-levels. With this approach, it is possible to obtain a better overall picture of a phenomenon while maintaining an in-depth understanding of the context, and the diverse views and experiences of individuals embedded within that context.
More and more researchers all over the world are becoming aware of and interested in the potential of mixed methods research. We are also seeing a rapid rise in the number of mixed methods studies not only in Japan but also in the Asia-Pacific region. Because of these increases, we launched JSMMR (Japan Society of Mixed Methods Research) as a community to support the creation of new perspectives by researchers in Japan and the Asia-Pacific region.
It is an exciting time for us as researchers and practitioners to be part of this methodological movement. We would like to invite everyone to get involved in JSMMR, the first mixed methods association in Asia-Pacific region, as well as the MMIRA. We hope this will lead to thought-provoking dialogues across disciplinary, cultural, and language borders!
